Gendreauj
Just bought a Yamaha 431 t trumpet to replace a Getzen Capri trumpet. Liked the 3rd slide fixed ring, which the Getzen Capri trumpet didn't have. Picked the trumpet up Friday, after an ultra sonic cleaning, tuning slide unstuck, valve stem repaired. Played with my Denis Wick 3 C and Yamaha 14 E and not happy with sound. Had a lesson today and my teacher agreed with me.How do I get a more open, free blowing sound with this trumpet? allen
You should experiment with a mouthpiece with different cup depths. I have found with new Yamaha trumpets that the mouthpiece can play an important part in the sound. I would find a similar to a Bach 5C as a baseline and see if that helps. Gendreauj
Bought a Getzen 5 C trumpet mouthpiece to try on this trumpet. Tried my Getzen 5 C cornet mouthpiece on the trumpet. Sounded ok.

Are Yamaha intermediate trumpets better with certain mouthpieces.
